Type 2 Diabetes Cell Therapy
An introduction to Beike-linked cell therapy research for type 2 diabetes. Clinical availability and individual suitability require confirmation.
Disponibilidad de atención clínica: Pendiente de confirmación
Start with your diabetes care needs
For adults with type 2 diabetes who want to understand cell therapy research and the questions to discuss with a specialist. Before any treatment decision, a qualified clinician would need to assess glucose control, current medication, pancreatic function, complications and other treatment options.
The treatment approach
The published Beike-linked studies used human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells, also described as mesenchymal stem cells or hUC-MSCs, given by intravenous infusion. This approach is different from transplanting insulin-producing islet cells. Eligibility and treatment are determined by the responsible hospital; standard diabetes care continues unless your treating physician changes it.
What the research shows
Published Beike-linked studies include a 16-person exploratory study, a 34-person phase II safety study and a single-patient report. These provide early signals of possible improvements in glucose control and medication requirements, alongside short-term safety observations. They do not establish a reliable individual response rate, long-term benefit or a cure for diabetes.
Safety matters throughout care
Transient fever and hypoglycaemia were reported, and the phase II study highlighted coagulation monitoring. Small studies cannot exclude uncommon or delayed risks. The clinical team reviews these risks, your existing conditions and the monitoring plan with you before treatment.
A proposed care pathway in China
The proposed pathway would begin in Beidaihe, with later stages potentially in Hainan. The receiving hospital, responsible clinical team, applicable treatment pathway and timing of every stage require confirmation for the individual patient before travel or treatment. A stage is not automatically one infusion, and a published study schedule is not a personal prescription.
A clear quotation before payment
If a suitable, hospital-confirmed treatment pathway is available, request a written quotation before agreeing to care or paying. It should identify the complete treatment fee and currency, the contracting entity and payment recipient, included and excluded services, hospital and stage arrangements, and cancellation and refund terms. Any change should be agreed in advance. Payment does not replace clinical assessment or guarantee an outcome.
Preparing for your visit and returning home
For an initial discussion, prepare your diagnosis, recent HbA1c and glucose results, medication list and relevant medical reports. The receiving clinical team should confirm any additional tests before you arrange them. If treatment proceeds, agree on glucose monitoring, medication review, follow-up and a handover to your local clinician before returning home. NEXA Care can support communication; urgent problems require local emergency care.
For referring clinicians and partners
Referring clinicians and partners can contact NEXA Care to discuss evidence, the records needed for a specialist review and possible coordination with the patient’s local care team. A named receiving hospital, clinical team and individual plan must be confirmed before any treatment arrangement.
Discuss your care plan
Contact NEXA Care to discuss the published evidence, your questions and current assessment options. Clinical availability and individual suitability require confirmation; this introduction is not a treatment booking.
